What Step Are You On?

So often I have learned that life is just a step by step process.  Sometimes you find yourself taking a few steps forward only to then go back a few steps.  Every time I think I have made some progress on this journey I am on, there is always something that puts me into thinking about the past.  I find myself going right back to that place again.  That is usually when I am filled with frustration, because I keep thinking that my heart can surely move forward and not look back anymore.  Often times when I really access what is going on with me, I do find that I have made tremendous progress and I am now moving to bigger heights than I ever imagined.  It is sometimes all in the way you look at things.  In order to move forward it takes a great deal of courage to shed some baggage that does not need to be part of the new journey.  You can hold on for so long to anger, resentment, bitterness, and so many things that will drag you down to where you will never be able to go anywhere.  Then I even found myself, as if all of that wasn’t enough, going to the place of beating myself up for having those feelings.  That is when I knew that baggage had to go.  It is way too old and does not serve a purpose any longer.

What started resonating through me was the word “forgiveness”.  Forgiveness is not for the weak.  Being able to forgive those who have wronged you is a mark of spiritual strength and confidence.  When you forgive, you grow, your heart begins to heal, your back straightens up, your eyes clear so that you can see the road ahead or the next step up.  What I realized was that anger is a spiritual sickness; but when you forgive you live.  It is vital that we forgive ourselves too!  When you forgive, you in no way change the past–but you sure do change the future.  That was when I knew the only way that I was going to be able to be on the step I wanted to be on, I must love everyone and forgive everyone, including myself.  Forgive your anger.  Forgive your guilt.  Your shame.  Your sadness.  Embrace and open up your love, your joy, your truth, and most especially your heart.  When you open your heart you will discover the wonderful healing power you have within.  Then you will find you are on exactly the right step to let LOVE lead again! My prayer is for God to remind me that what matters most in the end is the love I carry in my heart and the love I share in my life.  That it is a heart filled with forgiveness, so that I can keep being on the right steps!
