I just want to be content!


Do you ever find yourself just wanting to be at peace.  To truly be at peace with everything that is going on within you.  I find that I do have to go to those quiet places and reflect on what is it that is keeping me stirred up.  Last Sunday at church the preacher was talking about Phillippians 4:11-13.  “I am not saying this because I need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.  I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” That is when it hit me that in order to be at peace you must also be content.  I do find myself wondering how to live a life that is content.

There is so many aspects in your life such as your relationships, your job, your living arrangement, or just your overall expectations are not what you had thought they should be that can keep you from living in a state of peace.  It is way too easy to focus on what is wrong, but I am finding that in order to truly live a life of peace I must find contentment in who I am.  To embrace and be content with who people are and how they enrich my life.  To see the blessing in each person and situation throughout my day and allow an opportunity for it to give me peace.  To be able to say I am good and be quite happy with where you are today!  Believe me it is not a natural thing to do.  It requires a great deal of energy to be able to feel deep within you that peace and contentment, but it is amazing once you get to that place.  There is always going to be some part of your ego that wants to raise up and try to convince yourself that a person or something is not good enough.  At that point you have to sit back and discern whether it is time to make a change in order to stay content or that you just need to tell the ego to go away for now.  That is not something that is easy to discern.  If you can go to a quiet place and truly ask yourself the question you will find “you know” because God will always give your heart the answer,  I will each day continue to strive for that balance of peace and contentment in my life.
